The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process
If your wisdom teeth have fully erupted, we’ll simply numb your mouth, and then use an instrument to wiggle the teeth until they slip out. But if they are impacted (trapped beneath the gums), we’ll perform a surgical extraction. This involves making a small incision and removing the tooth in pieces. This allows us to use a smaller incision, which leads to a shorter recovery time.
Gauze will be placed over the treatment area, and for the next 24-48 hours, you should avoid strenuous physical activity, smoking, and drinking with a straw. We highly recommend stocking up on easy-to-chew foods ahead of your appointment as well so you don’t have to go to the store while healing!
